These are great, exactly as you would expect. Very warm (even when worn in colder places like Canada), nicely heathered, and comfortable, not itchy. Can also be used as long underwear under skinny jeans.

SmartWool tights should be sold by inseam, not only by shoe size, height, or weight. I'm 5'3" and 120 lbs with a 28" inseam and the M size may be slightly too short on me. The tights feel just right when I initially pull them on, but they sometimes ride down as I wear them, leaving an uncomfortable gap at the crotch. The M size's inseam is 26"-27" unstretched, depending on where in the crotch I measure. These tights seem to be designed for an overall petite population. Don't trust SmartWool's sizes for these tights, which are: S (women's shoe size 4-6.5, 5'0"-5'4", 100-130 lbs), M (shoe 7-9.5, 5'4"-5'8", 120-150 lbs), L (shoe 10-12.5, 5'6"-5'10, 140-170 lbs). These tights have a defined heel/ankle and the M's foot portion does fit my size 7-7.5 feet perfectly. If you're short enough to wear these tights comfortably, know that they're scratchy (very rough to the touch) and not warm. New England winter wind cuts directly through the material. While the Black color is a true black, the material is unevenly textured and so translucent that skintone and undies definitely show through. (The pictures of the mannequin wearing the Medium Gray Heather color most clearly show what I mean.) The only redeeming feature of these tights is that they're machine washable (wash warm and tumble dry low), but I have not washed them, so I don't know if they're durable.

When I saw Smart Wool I was so excited. I love their socks. These tights were not anywhere near the same quality or comfort. For the price they should have lasted more than one wear. They are busting out in the seams in the crotch area and do not stay in place around the waist. Very disappointing!

I liked the tights and they kept my feet warm but they didn't fit well. I ordered them in M and they were too small.

One would think. Smartwool tights, how fantastic! Wrong. While these tights are very warm there are many fundamental issues with them. I wear a size small and I am a petite girl but the crotch area is weirdly made with absolutely no give. The tights ride down and when you try to pull them up it feels like they are going to rip and guess what...they did! After only a few wears the tights busted at the back seam along the crotch. Again I say, I am not a big girl! So I got them replaced because Smartwool has a guarantee on their products, which is wonderful. Then I wore the new tights with a pair of Frye boots, looks cute, but when I took the boots off I realized the tights had all pilled around the top of the boot where it touched my leg. Basically these tights are a huge disappointment and I would not recommend the investment!

The worst tight I have ever worn. I usually love Smartwool products, so I was so deeply disappointed when I bought these tights. First of all, the elastic band around the waist isn't sewn down so it flips over and in half and all manner of annoying ways during the day. It will not stay in place. Secondly, the overall look is very thin. It's not comfortable at all, either. It bunches down and is sized about a size too small, in my opinion. Lastly, I could not believe it but after only one wearing, the crotch ripped in about three different places - some along the seams, but one other hole was just completely random. This is totally unacceptable for a bargain brand, much less for Smartwool. I don't know how this brand can get sweaters and socks so right and these tights so wrong. I don't know what my recourse is, since I no longer have the receipt (bought them at REI), but I think I will try to visit the website and see what sort of warranty is offered and hopefully, Smartwool will stand by this terrible, terrible product. I wonder if the "Smartwool The Tight II" is the second version? Maybe the original is a better product? It honestly cannot get any worse than this!
