This shoe is the only acceptable "minimal shoe" replacement for my Vibram Five Fingers that I have found. I needed a shoe that looked more like a shoe to wear to work, but I've hated all the other minimal
shoes I've tried, including Merrell Pure Glove,
Nike Free,
New Balance Minima and
Puma Faas. I was so happy to find the Hattori, which embodies most of the traits I demand of a truly minimal shoe: no arch support, zero heel drop, lightweight, conforming to the foot, very flexible
sole, and allowing plenty of rooms for the toes to spread and move freely. They're also less expensive than some of the alternatives I didn't try because of the price (eg: VivoBarefoot). They look sharp, too- the laceless design is appropriate for slightly more dressy situations, although I don't understand the lame color scheme options for women. My only quibbles are as follows: (a) The soles are thicker and squishier than I'd like in a minimal shoe, but they are very porous and bendable, so you still get a lot of that barefoot feel, and (b) I developed horrific blisters on the backs of my ankles on Day 1 of wearing them. The
shoes fit very well, but despite being intended to be worn without socks, the way they are designed rubs the back of my foot. Hopefully my feet will toughen up so I can
keep wearing them this way. Otherwise, they are super comfortable. I'm on my feet all day and have no soreness at the
end of the day.
