The back was a little skimpy for my taste. I think I am going to return them for the board shorts.

I wear between a 14 and 16, and the XL fits. Not only does it fit, but it's comfortable and doesn't cut into me. So many non-high-waist bottoms seem to bind across the waistband at the worst possible place, but these work really well for me. Just enough coverage, stays put, and I've worn them all day without any discomfort.

Nicely made, good fit, adequate coverage. Haven't worn them in the ocean yet, but expect them to be fine.
