A San Francisco native, Derek Lam was born into fashion. While he only just recently began producing the Derek Lam eyewear collection, designing has always been a part of his life. As a child he would sit in his grandparents’ garment factory watching the seamstresses and adoring the work they were doing. Following in his family’s footsteps into fashion, Derek Lam graduated from a top New York design school in 1990. After working in a high end fashion house, Derek Lam ventured to Hong Kong in order to gain more experience at a large retail brand. Since the inception of his own label in 2003, he has become a popular name in high fashion.

In 2006 he launched the Derek Lam eyewear collection saying, “It’s wonderful, because now I’m playing in a playground where the possibilities are unlimited.” With these unlimited possibilities, Derek Lam’s eyewear designs bring high fashion to everyday functionality.
